The Treatment

What are GLP-1 injections and how do they work?

GLP-1s, or Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 agonists, are medications used to manage type 2 diabetes and obesity. They work by mimicking the action of a natural hormone called GLP-1. GLP-1s enhance insulin production, reduce glucagon secretion, and slow down stomach emptying. This helps regulate blood sugar levels and promotes weight loss.

Do GLP-1s have side effects?

Like most medications, GLP-1s may have side effects, but they are generally mild. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea, which often improve over time. If you experience any severe side effects you should stop your treatment and contact your healthcare provider immediately.

How long does it take to see results?

The time it takes to see results with GLP-1 medications varies from person to person. Some people experience improvements in blood sugar control within a few weeks, while others may take longer. Weight loss typically occurs gradually over several months. It’s important to follow your healthcare provider’s recommendations and be patient as your body adjusts to the medication.

Are GLP-1 Medications Safe?

GLP-1 medications are generally safe when used as prescribed. However, they may not be suitable for everyone, so it’s crucial to discuss your medical history and any potential risks with your healthcare provider.
